Your blog/sketchbook should be able to display the following in order to achieve at PASS on your Unit 13/FMP

  • SOI with pencil annotated timetable at front of sketchbook or at top of blog page.
  • Research – all research which is listed on your SOI (Harvard Format) must be presented and show ANALYSIS (FMP Research Guides) of work, in own words, and show a clear developmental relationship to your FMP

  • A minimum of 6 shoots should be presented, and 8 shoots is a guide to be considered as “good” – therefore you should show the flow process 6-8 different times. Each flow should be presented as shoot 1, shoot 2, shoot 3, etc and be dated! This will link to your FMP timetable.

  • Clear evidence of how you have altered your FMP due to feedback or other problem solving

Crit 2 Wednesday 27th – All students 2:20. Must follow the Powerpoint Format. Please do not show us all images from your shoots, but also not too few. We do not want to just see what you have chosen as finals but we do not want to see 20 images of more or less the same thing either! 10-15% from each shoot would be a good aim. Powerpoint should be visually presented, not text heavy. Use bullet points and be prepared to discuss your work with your group rather than reading to them.

Reflective Journal – Guidance

6265419_orig

  • The journal is about you—so write in the first person.
  • Got questions? If so, write them down!
  • Found an answer you don’t want to forget? Write it down.
  • Keep your to-do lists in the journal. Also record the steps you performed if they are not part of the action plan. Checklists also belong in journals.
  • Keep the journal on your person at all times while performing study tasks and observations. Think of it this way—if it is not handy when you need it, then what good is it?
  • Record ideas of value to you.
  • Use the back inside cover for special notes to yourself.
  • If you notice cultural issues emerging in your study, record it!
  • Got a new idea for your research or for your next AR cycle? Write it down!
  • Did you screw up? If so, record your mistake.
  • Did you sense a power distance while meeting with stakeholders? If so, write about how you felt and what you observed.
  • Did you make a mistake while collecting data? If so, you better leave yourself a note in the journal.
  • Did you have a new, positive, confusing, negative, or utterly befuddling experience while researching? Well, write it down!
  • Did you sense emotion from yourself or a stakeholder? Was it relevant to the moment in which you were conducting the study? If so, record it. Emotions are part of being human and are a very valuable component to action research.
  • Did you have a moment where you were unprepared or felt like a total idiot during the study? If so, good! Record that moment and think about what you need to learn.
  • Make sure you have a safe place to keep your journal.
  • Never let anyone else write in your journal.

HOW TO PRESENT RESEARCH HANDOUT: HOW TO PRESENT FINAL MAJOR PROJECT RESEARCH IN YOUR SKETCHBOOK

UAL Unit 13 L3 FMP brief

UAL L3 FMP PROPOSAL

Use Emma’s blog as an example of how to set up and maintain a reflective journal (diary). Notice the differences between the content in the journal and what would be in your sketchbook:

https://emmaferrariphotography.wordpress.com/

** Wide variety of research and influences presented.

** Personal report of her progress – critical of what is going well, and what has been challenging along the way.

** Recording change of ideas or direction.

** Recording and reacting to feedback from peers/tutors.

** Reflective language on the quality of her work

** Identifying improvements needing to be made

** Evaluation of how she has stuck to her original plan

** Include work of other artist, embedded videos, research that she is keeping in mind whilst shooting.

** Keep in mind that these are BTEC Edexcel FMP proposals, and we are now UAL. Our forms are now different so the examples will not cover everything that we are asking you to do.
